Just a minute away from the extraordinary San Mateo church, in the heart of the historic Old Town of Tarifa, stands “El Escondite”, a small boutique- hotel acquired by the “ Sacristia” Group in 2018. It is located away from the hustle and bustle, among quiet streets full of charm.
The building has been completely renovated in May 2023, equipped with air conditioning, thermal and acoustic comfort facilities, powered by nearly zero-consumption renewable energy sources. The engineering work undertaken to achieve this has made it a benchmark at the provincial and even state level, given the complexity of the installation design and the limited space beneath the false ceilings.
The interior restructuring has increased the number of rooms from eight to ten, all filled with comfort and quality, featuring a spectacular and artistic interior design. Its more than 200-year-old facade has been carefully restored to preserve all of its original architectural elements. Additionally, the ascent to the hotel’s rooftop is framed by a rehabilitated stone arch under a spectacular skylight, providing views of the San Mateo church.
The interior decoration and textile design are the work of the interior design studio “Las Dos Mercedes,” creating a relaxed, beachy, and bohemian atmosphere. In the hotel’s common areas, guests can enjoy impressive murals by the artist Johina G. Concheso, who has also decorated the spectacular hotel lobby.
